The U. S. Navy is opposed to folks drowning. In particular the Navy is against people drowning in the recreational swimming hole located in the back acres of their National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Maryland. One lucky sailor was assigned to guard the swimming hole during the night hours. His instructions were to “prevent anyone from falling into the water and drowning...” The sailor performed his duty well that night. No one drowned. The sailor darn nearly froze himself, for it was his luck to catch this duty on the coldest day in late January. While the sailor was busy almost freezing, the swimming hole remained frozen solid, all the way from the top to the bottom. Mission accomplished. No one drowned that night. |
